EMT Training for EMT Levels

There are three basic stages for emergency medical technicians or EMT but may vary in some states, the stages are first responder, basic and intermediate emergency medical technicians or EMT.  Training EMT for the first responder approximately lasts for 40 to 60 hours, but some trainees can finish in less than four days depending on the training cycle.  It is also necessary that you have a high school diploma or GED, although it is not mandatory in some states, for the reason that many medical classes during the training require basic skills like reading and math.  The next level is the emergency medical technician basic or the EMT-B, wherein a separate training is also being offered in a local community college and even in various medical schools in your area.  The training for this level usually lasts for 120 hours of hands-on practice.
Most EMT training schools incorporate class in cardiac emergencies and respiratory management.  It is also necessary that you pass the ambulance driving training too aside from passing the course.  Different driver certificate is required by different states for emergency medical technician.  Visit you state’s motor vehicle department website to view details about EMT-1, EMT-P, and EMT-IV driver’s certificates.  Finally, for the emergency medical technician intermediate or EMT-I, you need to complete the 55 hours of clinical training.  After completing the course, register at the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians or NREMT website about the NREMT Exam, because every state nationwide requires an Intermediate Emergency Medical Technicians to acquire some form of license.
